Ayutthaya Day Tour – The Temples

The temples are amazing places to capture on film during the Ayutthaya day tour. More than that, the temples in Ayutthaya are historic symbols of faith and superb architectural heritage that stand still in time.

Even seen as crumbling, the temples Wat Phra Sri Sanphet, Wat Mangkokbophit and Wat Vhai Wattaranam are still breath-taking. They are Thai architecture emblems that reflect the culture of the ancient Thailand.

Wat Phra Sri Sanphet

Wat Phra Sri Sanphet is really a site to behold. The architectural design of the buildings with red bricks is magnanimous. In the center you will marvel at the three proud huge chedis that contain the ashes of King Borommatrailokanat and his sons King Borommarachathirat III and King Ramthibodi II, from the 15th century.

The place can create an aura of peace, pride and curiosity at the same time. There are shady trees and comfortable lawns where you can spend time glorifying the edifice with different camera angles and light effects.

Wat Mangkokbophit

Wat Mangkokbophit is a temple in Ayutthaya especially built to house the huge 12.45 meters high and 9.5 meters wide (across the legs) bronze Buddha statue called Phra Mongkol Bophit built in the 15th century.

Covered in gold leaf, there is no trace of the great black Buddha’s worn state before the renovation in 1956. The temple now shimmers in its white, red and gold hues which are entirely different from the tattered wiharn with open roof that housed the image before.

Wat Vhai Wattaranam

Wat Vhai Wattaranam is a remarkable shaky temple that is picture-perfect. A high and magnificent architecture set against a background of the blue sky and a vast plain, it feels like you are in another place in another time.

The towers are outstanding and the central tower gives you an extra thrill. The central tower has four stairwells reaching high where you can take scenic pictures below. Additional feature of the place are the headless statues that line the walls which may be a little eerie.

Although there are many more temples and ruins worth a visit, your Ayutthaya day tour will never be complete without these three wonderful temples.
