Wat Pho (The Reclining Buddha)
Wat Pho is one of the oldest temples in the Thai capital. It is also one of the largest temple complexes in Bangkok and has the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand. Wat Pho maintains the title as the country’s earliest center for public education, specializing in massage, religion, science, and literature. Most of the Buddha images on display were brought to the temple, by order of King Rama I, from abandoned temples in Ayutthaya and Sukhothai.
Wat Traimit (The Golden Buddha)
Home of the 5.5 ton pure gold Buddha, it is truly a memorable sight to behold. The golden Buddha statue was discovered on accident as they dropped it as they were moving it. Under a casing of plaster, it revealed a beautiful solid gold Sukhothai style Buddha, making it one of Thailand’s most special and unique statues.
Wat Benchamabophit (The Marble Temple)
One of Thailand’s most beautiful temples, Wat Benchamabophit (Wat Ben for short) is a temple of significant importance as it is classified as a first class Royal Temple. The official name of the temple is Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram, which means “the Monastery of the fifth King near Dusit Palace”, the fifth King being King Chulalongkorn the Great Rama V.
