Kanchanaburi, through the years, continues to captivate travellers with the promise of a slower, relaxed pace not far away from Bangkok. Rivers, caves, waterfalls, and other natural attractions are within reach and just 2 hours drive from Bangkok. 

Stroll around the Historic Bridge of River Kwai 

Also known as the bridge in the Death Railway, it has been popularized by the movie, The Bridge on the River Kwai in 1957 film by the French novelist Pierre Boulle. It was constructed by the Japanese during World War II as the Burma Railway between Thailand and Burma. The project came at such a cost of human life where the Allied of POWs forced to assist building the Death Railway.   Only the outer ends of the first bridge remain; the rest was bombed by Allied forces in 1945 but the bridge is still impressive even today. 

Explore the beauty of Erawan National Park

With only 3 hours away by drive, it is the most accessible national park from Bangkok that you shouldn’t miss.

Visitors can explore, hike and go for a swim in the middle of the jungle. You can also explore a cave or another hiking trail in the national park.  If you decide to hike, the trail to the top is not too difficult and only takes about an hour, so it’s easy and accessible for everyone.

Interact with the wildlife in Kanchanaburi Safari Park and Open Zoo

The Safari Park in Kanchanaburi  is an open zoo nestled in a vast  natural landscape which houses camels, tigers, leopard, lions, elephants, parrots, deer, zebras, giraffe, flamingo, ostrich, llamas, and a wide variety of different species waiting for you to witness and interact with — 28 kilometres away  from the city. 

Most of the animals living here have been rescued, and are now well taken care of by park volunteers and animal experts. If you are very fond of big cats, we highly recommend you to spend half a day here, learning about them, and interacting with them up close.

Try the farm-to-table freshly-brewed coffee in Finca de Barn

Finca De Barn where he Arabica beans are mostly grown on the family’s farm in the highlands of Kanchanaburi, near the Myanmar border, where the conditions are similar to coffee-growing regions in Central America so they got the name “finca”  which means farmland in Spanish. They are now becoming popular with their unique brewing technique and has been a name in the coffee industry around Thailand.
